The condition of a woman shot late last week on a South Salt Lake street was improved on Monday, but now police say she is refusing to cooperate with investigators.

The 42-year-old woman had been in critical condition Friday after being shot in the leg while walking near 3350 South and 300 East, just after 6:30 a.m.

Police Lt. Gary Keller said the woman initially said she had suddenly heard gunfire and then felt a bullet strike her leg. She had managed to call 911 before collapsing in the street, suffering from significant blood loss.

On Monday, having undergone surgery over the weekend, she was stabilized, expected to recover and conscious — but she was not giving investigators any answers as they tried to find her assailant or assailants.

Anyone with information on this case is asked to call SSLPD at 801-840-4000.
