Farmington police, aided by an observant burglary victim's neighbor, took two suspects into custody at gunpoint on Interstate 15.

Farmington Police Chief Wayne Hansen said the victim drove home about 2:30 p.m. Sunday to find two men toting pillowcases full of his property to a white Ford Taurus parked in his driveway, near 500 East and 200 South. When the homeowner confronted the two, they got in their vehicle and backed out, slamming into the man's car in the process.

A neighbor, witnessing the event, followed the suspects in his own car, phoning in locations to 911 as the thieves pulled onto southbound I-15. Farmington officers located the vehicle and pulled it over, keeping them in their sights while ordering the men to exit and surrender.

"You never know what you may be dealing with in these situations, and because of the [suspects'] actions, we instituted a 'high-risk' stop," Hansen said.

The two men, stopped on the Parrish Lane off-ramp from southbound I-15, were arrested without further incident.

The 43-year-old suspect was booked into the Davis County jail on suspicion of burglary, theft, fleeing police and possession of heroin and drug paraphernalia. He was being held on an order from Adult Probation and Parole, having a rap sheet replete with past drug, theft and burglary charges.

The second suspect, 28, was being held Monday in lieu of $20,000 bail on suspicion of burglary, theft, reckless driving, leaving the scene of an accident and fleeing police. Court records show his criminal record includes past felony convictions for aggravated assault, fleeing police, weapons possession by a restricted person and vehicle theft.
