Posted: 3:46:58 PM- Salt Lake County leaders have opened the way for more open space.
On Tuesday afternoon, the County Council voted 6-0 to put a $48 million bond proposal on the Nov. 7 ballot.
If voters sign off, residents would see their property taxes go up by $9 a year on a $200,000 home. In exchange, they would see more regional parks, trails and preserved open space.
Council members were told Tuesday that a county-commissioned poll by Dan Jones & Associates showed 70 percent of the public support steering tax dollars to enhancing open space. The open-space proposal now joins an $895 million TRAX bond on the ballot. An additional recreation bond - from Zoo, Arts and Parks taxes - also is expected to go before voters this fall.
