Frenchtown Township, Mich. • DTE Energy Co. says the reactor at the Fermi 2 nuclear power plant in southeastern Michigan has been restarted after being shut down for refueling and maintenance.
A manual shutdown took place Sept. 13 due to a problem with a system used to cool auxiliary equipment at the plant along Lake Erie in Monroe County's Frenchtown Township. The planned refueling and maintenance outage was moved up due to the shutdown.
Utility spokesman Guy Cerullo tells the Monroe News (http://bit.ly/1NYfkDg ) that the plant was synchronized to Detroit-based DTE's electrical grid on Sunday at about 25 percent power and has been increased to about 70 percent power. He says power will be increased in the coming days.
More than 1,500 supplemental workers were at Fermi 2 to support the work.
