Amonson moved to Utah three years ago because he wanted to live where other people vacation. He was drawn by the large variety and high quality of extreme sports available. He loves flying in his wing suit, base jumping, skiing and speed flying, which combines alpine skiing and paragliding. He is a former sky-diver, but now prefers wing suiting instead. Amonson loves his sports so much, he has arranged his work schedule to accommodate them. He works as a residential counselor at the Oakley School, where he stays overnight a few days a week. He recently graduated with a bachelor's degree in professional aeronautics, but plans to continue pursuing sports before slowing down for a career.

Amonson feels he got lucky when buying his house in Cottonwood Heights. He did not know the valley's neighborhoods, but landed in a perfect spot near the canyons. He loves that shopping is within walking distance on Fort Union Blvd., and a ski bus stop is at the end of his street. He also likes having Mountain View Elementary in his backyard, which gives the area plenty of open space and a great view of the mountains. He is concerned about development in the area, and hopes the Cottonwood Mall will someday be finished, instead of remaining an empty lot.
