The Golden Spike National Historic Site west of Brigham City will host its annual reenactment of the joining of the rails Wednesday at 10 a.m.

This is the 148th anniversary of the event, with festivities Wednesday running from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The big event includes the re-creation of the historic "champagne photo," of the Transcontinental Railroad being completed, a performance by the Box Elder High band, a traditional anniversary program, a re-enactment of the original 1869 ceremony and locomotive steam demonstrations.

The keynote speaker this year will be Jimmy Chen, professor of computer science and information systems and Utah Advisory of Overseas, Community Council, Republic of China.

The re-creation ceremony begins at 10 a.m. The re-enactment of the original ceremony starts at 12:45 p.m. and will be done again at 2 p.m. The locomotives depart at 4:30 p.m.
