Some classic roller coasters such as Lagoon's venerable wooden coaster continue to thrill theme park visitors as they have for generations.

Others don't possess that kind of staying power.

Take, for example, Knott's Berry Farm's 27-year-old Boomerang. This is a steel coaster known for taking riders on a quick upside-down ride and then reversing the process by going backward on its 875-foot track.

The park replaced its historic Roaring 20s Corkscrew with Boomerang in 1990. And now the Boomerang is going into coaster history.

The Southern California theme park has announced that the coaster will be retired on April 23. Patrons coming to the park's Boysenberry Festival can get one last chance to ride the Boomerang.

So, if you have found memories of this thrill ride, you better hurry. It's going away soon.
