The Kane County Sheriff's Office has identified the victim of a fatal fall as being a Cedar City-based employee of the Bureau of Land Management.

Chief Sheriff's Deputy Alan Alldredge said that Ryan Shakespear, 42, was deer hunting near Wahweap Wash and Grosvenor Arch sometime late Monday evening when he apparently fell down a 150-foot cliff.

Rain had fallen in the region and muddy conditions were reported at the time.

Family members, concerned when Shakespear was overdue returning to their cabin, first attempted to find him on their own. About 1:15 a.m. Tuesday, they called the sheriff's office, and when Shakespear still had not returned by dawn a multi-agency search was launched.

Alldredge said that in addition to county search and rescue workers, Classic Air Medical dispatched a helicopter from Page, Ariz., to help look for Shakespear.

However, it was the man's family who first found Shakespear's body.

The helicopter crew landed deputies near the scene to recover the remains, which there then flown to Moab and turned over to the Utah State Medical Examiner's Office for an autopsy.

Shakespear is survived by a wife and their six children.
