If you plan on hunting in the any bull or spike only elk hunts when the rifle season opens October 8, you better hurry.

The Division of Wildlife Resources reports that as of last Friday, only 491 any bull permits were available while there were still 3,178 spike only permits available.

There are also permits available for the general muzzleloader hunt that begins November 2.

"There's a good chance the permits will sell out before the rifle hunt starts," says Judi Tutorow, wildlife licensing coordinator for the Division of Wildlife Resources. "If you want to hunt elk in Utah this fall, I'd encourage you to get a permit now. Utah has lots of bull elk. We don't want you to miss out on a great experience this fall."

Permits are available at http://www.wildlife.utah.gov, or available from approximately 300 license agents that sell Utah hunting permits.

For more information on the general bull elk hunt, read pages 20 to 23 in the 2016 Utah Big Game Field Regulations Guidebook. The book is available free online at http://www.wildlife.utah.gov/guidebooks.
