If you are planning on taking a four-wheel drive trip into Canyonlands in the next few days, check with rangers to see if where you are going is open.

On Thursday night, park interpreters reported that the Salt Creek and Horse Canyon roads in the Needles District were impassable due to quicksand and pooled water along the road from flooding.

On Friday, park officials said that flooding events have cut southern sections of the Elephant Hill road, which is now impassable. The repairs will take a few days to complete.

In addition, the west side of the White Rim has similar conditions but is passable to high clearance four-wheel drive vehicles. Chains wood help.

The Arches four-wheel drive road also has muddy conditions.

Some permits may not be issued. Again, check with rangers at visitor centers or call ahead before attempting to go on these four-wheel drive roads.
