The Utah Office of Outdoor Recreation has announced the addition of youth programs in a list of groups that can apply for the Utah Outdoor Recreation Grant.

Applications are due August 11. Applications and detailed eligibility requirements can be viewed at business.utah.gov/outdoor.

This is a 50-50 matching grant program with no more than $75,000 to put toward programs that directly benefit the public.

Groups that are eligible include nonprofits, youth programs and local or tribal government agencies.

Eligible infrastructure development projects include but are not limited to youth programs, trails, trail in fracture development, trail facilities rest room facilities near recreation areas, ramps and launch sites to improve water access, whitewater parks, hurts and infrastructure for wildlife viewing areas. Project areas must be accessible to the public.

For example, in 2015, funds were used to open the Moab Boulder Park and Highland Bike Park.

Each year we see increased participation in outdoor activities within our local communities," said Tom Adams, director of the Office of Outdoor Recreation. "It is important to provide these communities and other invested groups the necessary resources to sustainably plan, prepare and participate in outdoor recreation."
