Directions • The hike starts at the Tukupetsi Trailhead. From the center of Santa Clara, take Santa Clara Drive west. (Maps or navigation devices may refer to Santa Clara Drive as Sunset Boulevard.) Half a mile past the Jacob Hamblin Home, take a slight left turn onto a dirt road. Follow the road for half a mile. The parking lot will be on your left. The trail head and a kiosk will be on your right.

The Tempi'po'op Trail (pronounced "tumpee poo oop") means "rock writing" in Southern Paiute, according to the Bureau of Land Management. The trail will take you past and to petroglyphs. At the Tukupetsi Trailhead, begin by following the Fishhook Trail as it travels north then quickly turns to the west. Stay left and follow the trail marked "Upper Graveyard" as it curves to the south. Soon, you will see a sign for the Tempi'po'op Trail turning you to the west again. From there, the trail follows the ridge line above the Santa Clara River. Be looking for petroglyphs in the red rocks along the ridge. As you near the 2-mile mark, you should see a fence and a gate. On the other side are a few petroglyphs in the rocks along the ridge. You can turn around here or, according to BLM guides, keep going about 1 1/2 more miles. Click here to see a trail map.
