Some of the top youth climbers from Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming and Utah will compete Saturday and Sunday at the American Bouldering Series Division Championships at The Front Climbing Club in Ogden.

Winners of the event for climbers ages eight through 19 will get a chance to advance to the USA Climbing ABS National Championship.

Shad Burnham, CEO of The Front Climbing Club, said 240 athletes are expected to attend.

"Ogden has a rich climbing history, from George and Jeff Lowe pioneering much of modern rock and ice climbing techniques and equipment in the 60s on the cliffs and ice of the East Bench, to the Ogden Climbing Festival," said Burnham, whose facility features 15,000 square feet of bouldering terrain in the old American Can Company. "With such a supportive outdoor-oriented community, Ogden is an obvious choice for such a large event."

The competition, which is free and open to the public, will begin with the qualifier round on Saturday and the final onsite round on Sunday. Competitors will have four minutes per route with a total of four routes per category in the qualifier round.

The final round will consist of four problems or technical routes per category, with four minutes allotted to each problems. Competitors will not be able to view the course prior to their round and will be scored based off a combination of factors that include how high they climb and how many attempts they make to climb each problem.
