$7.99 • The seeds for Amano Artisan Chocolate's newest dark chocolate bar were planted seven years on a cocoa plantation in the Dominican Republic. "The day I visited, there was this beautiful soft light, tropical birds were chirping and the cocoa trees were full of pods that were all these different colors — red, purple, orange, just a rainbow," said owner Art Pollard, who called the scene a literal "Garden of Eden." But it took the award-winning Utah chocolate maker years to convince the plantation owners he could make something special with their product. The result is Macoris, a bar with hints of molasses, brown sugar, cream and dried apricot. Available at amanochocolate.com and at various specialty markets.
