Celebrate the vegan lifestyle on Saturday during Salt Lake City's inaugural VegFest.

The free event takes place Saturday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on the plaza of the Main Library, 210 E. 400 South, Salt Lake City. There will be food for purchase, live music and discussions about eating and living as a vegan.

"It will be a great resource for anyone interested in going vegan but needing help learning how to do so," said Amy Meyer, VegFest Executive Director.

Guests can buy food from several vegan food vendors including Piper Down Pub, Ice Haus, Sage's Cafe, and Soul Traveler Foods. There will be vegan pastries from Passion Flour Patisserie and Big O Doughnuts, cold-pressed juice from Vive Juicery, and gourmet cashew "cheeses" from Zest Kitchen.

Matt Ruscigno, a registered dietitian and vegan of 20 years, is the keynote speaker and will discuss how going vegan doesn't mean preparing expensive or exotic foods.

The festival also includes children's activities, fitness and yoga classes and an athlete expo, where athletes demonstrate their physical abilities and answer questions about how to best satisfy nutritional needs. Sponsored by the Utah Animal Rights Coalition.
