$9 • Hiyashi ramen

Those who enjoy steaming bowls of ramen in the winter should welcome its light and refreshing summer sibling, Hiyashi ramen. Cold ramen noodles are mixed with crisp cucumber strips, bay shrimp and tamago (cooked and shredded egg) and then tossed in a garlic vinaigrette and garnished with thinly sliced seaweed. It is one of four ramen and soba bowls that Kyoto has recently added to its lunch menu. Enjoy Hiyashi ramen at the restaurant with a glass of crisp sauvignon blanc. Or get it to go for a summer picnic.
