On Sunday, Episcopal bishops and others scrambled to record a rare moment: the church's female bishops — including the outgoing Presiding Bishop Katharine Jefferts Schori and retired Utah Bishop Carolyn Tanner Irish — gathered in one place.

As part of the Episcopal Church's Triennial General Convention, held this year in Salt Lake City, bishops and church members also marched against gun violence Sunday.

Last week, the church's bishops made history by electing Bishop Michael Curry as the first African-American presiding bishop, and its top legislative body met to review policies on alcohol and addiction in the wake of the manslaughter case against a former assistant bishop.

The convention continues in Salt Lake City through July 3.
