The Mormon Tabernacle Choir will perform on Independence Day weekend in a hallowed but different kind of cathedral: Yankee Stadium.

The New York Yankees announced Monday that the choir will offer a patriotic medley July 3 before singing the national anthem prior to the American League team's night game against the Tampa Bay Rays, according to a release on the LDS Church's newsroom website.

"The saying goes that there's nothing more American than baseball and apple pie, and I would add, having America's Choir lift its voices in patriotic songs to celebrate the birth of this great nation," Ron Jarrett, president of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, said on the group's website. "It is an absolute thrill and honor for the Mormon Tabernacle Choir to sing in such an iconic venue like Yankee Stadium for thousands of Yankees fans."

The renowned 360-voice choir and the 68-member Orchestra at Temple Square is planning an East Coast tour June 24 through July 7.
