Cold turkeys and warm hearts were in rich supply Tuesday as volunteers with Lutheran Social Service of Utah handed out goodies to hundreds of needy families.

Two days before Thanksgiving, frozen turkeys were the main course, along with other foods and personal items, at the Holiday Food Box Giveaway.

Leslie Whited, CEO and diaconal minister for Lutheran Social Service, said in a news release that the event also allowed participants to connect with her group's employment services, which provide everything from résumé help and job coaching to haircuts and vouchers for clothes to wear to interviews.

She expected Tuesday's giveaway to draw about 300 adults to feed more than 3,000 men, women and children.
