The works of 250 craft artist will be on display at this weekend's Craft Lake City DIY Festival, the 8th annual festival devoted to promoting creative culture.

The DIY-focused festival opens Friday, Aug. 12, from 5 to 10 p.m.; it continues noon to 10 p.m. Saturday and noon to 7 p.m. Sunday at downtown's Gallivan Center. Admission is $5 for adults (free for children 12 and under), and $30 (plus fees) for admission to the VIP Patio

Festival craft booths were designed by Salt Flat Studios, along with two artists, Montée and sBayco. In addition to craft sales, the festival features music and dance performers, food trucks, a hands-on Kids' Craft area, interactive displays in the STEM building, and a VIP Patio featuring craft food and drink workshops.

Animal Jam, a Salt Lake City-based social network for kids, will host "live animal encounters" on Friday and Saturday, and Pictureline will host a pop-up photo studio and drone demonstrations. FIRST Utah Robotics will offer demonstrations under the west staircase of the STEM Building, and in front of the SLUG Magazine stage during performance breaks. On Sunday, Salty Bike Revival will offer a custom motorcycle exhibit.

Organizers expect 40,000 festivalgoers to attend this year's event, directed by Angela H. Brown, executive editor of SLUG Magazine. The nonprofit expanded this year to offer craft markets at the city's Thursday night Twilight Concerts, and also hosts monthly workshops, gallery shows and fundraisers.

The festival will also sell its own merchandise, drink koozies and enamel pins, designed by Courtney Blair of Pattern Daily. —
