Local breweries and the latest food trucks will compete for diners' votes Saturday, Aug. 12, at the first Food Truck and Brewery Battle at The Gateway in Salt Lake City.

Guests will be able to buy food from more than a dozen food trucks that have opened over the past 18 months, and can purchase samples from area breweries. Then they can vote for their favorites online as the kickoff to the Salt Awards, The Salt Lake Tribune's annual celebration of emerging talent and experiences.

The free event will be held from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. on The Gateway Plaza on Rio Grande St. between 100 South and 50 North. It will include music from DJ Poetic, DJ Dizz, DJ Erockalypze, U92 All Stars, BBoy Federation and more.

"We're excited to partner with Broadway Media, The Salt Lake Tribune and The Food Truck League to present this festive summer block party," said Edie Trott, marketing director at The Gateway. "Bring your family and friends to this free, one-of-a-kind event."

Best Friends will host its "Cat Days of Summer Adoption Event" from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 90 S. Rio Grande St.

Participating food trucks will include: Pizza Cone Zone, Ginger's Garden Cafe, Touch of Polynesia, Komrades, Monsieur Crepes, Taste of Louisiana, Crumbs Donuts, Made in Brazil, Bandera Brisket, Falafel Tree and Soup-er Sandwich.

Local brewers will include Epic Brewing Company, Proper Brewing Co., Roha Brewing Project, Fisher Brewing Company and Mountain West Cider.
