Join comedian and impressionist Marcus Hardy, who once snagged second place on NBC's "Last Comic Standing," at The Gateway on Oct. 12 as he hosts The Salt Lake Tribune's first Salt Awards.

The awards, from The Tribune and Utah Digital Services, recognize Utah enterprises whose products, services and reputation consistently represent excellence.

The event will include performances by singer-songwriter Talia Keys, who has her own unique style of funk-soul-rock 'n' roll with a hip-hop/reggae/folk twist, and Scenic Byway, the electronic hip-hop band that just released its debut album, "The Shape of the Earth."

DJ Jesse Walker, DJ Brisk and the urban dance group The BBoy Federation also will perform.

For $50, VIP ticket holders can join and network with more than 30 category winners, savoring appetizers and beverages while taking in a unique view of the Salt Lake City skyline from The Tribune's seventh-floor patio.

Readers may nominate and vote for businesses in 20 categories through Sept. 30 at tribsalt.com/vote">tribsalt.com/vote">http://tribsalt.com/vote">tribsalt.com/vote. Tribune staffers will select additional winners, judging competitors such as the best new restaurants.

Readers' Choice categories include the best places to have brunch, grab a burger, enjoy sushi or Chinese, Mexican or vegetarian/vegan food. We also want to know where you go to savor coffee, lift a local beer, find a meal after 10 p.m. and get out and about — from family activities to downtown nightlife, from theaters and music venues to museums, festivals, water parks and ski resorts.

The SALT Awards are sponsored by Ogden's Own, makers of Five Wives Vodka and Porter's Fire & Peach, and the Ogden Downtown Alliance.
