Are you a fan of the Utah Arts Festival? Did you know that every year it takes more than 1,000 volunteers to run the four-day event at Library Square? According to long-time Volunteer Coordinator Kay Wankier, "The Utah Arts Festival is a well-oiled machine because so many volunteers come back year after year. It becomes like family and we have a lot of fun. And there's always room for more volunteers!"

Now is your opportunity to become part of this celebrated event. From serving as a festival greeter to watching an artist's booth to painting a child's face, there are many ways you can volunteer your time and expertise. Here are 10 ways you can help make this year's Utah Arts Festival (June 23-26) better than ever!

1. Be a watchful eye as a marketplace booth sitter

As a booth sitter, you'll monitor a booth while the artist takes a short 15-30 minute break. This is a great opportunity to support and get to know participating artists. You won't be required to handle money or artist transactions—you'll simply watch the booth during the artist's quick break.

2. Help in the Makers Workshop

If you're crafty, volunteering in the Makers Workshop is for you. In this role, you'll help people create tiny utilitarian works of art using bathroom tiles, duct tape, yarn and other artistic materials. Each craft project is themed and can be completed in 15 minutes or less. This is a fun and easy activity to volunteer for under the busy Makers Workshop tent.

3. Join the Fear No Film Short Film & Video Festival crew

Fear No Film is the Utah Arts Festival annual film festival highlighting many short films and videos in the Salt Lake City Library Auditorium. Volunteers will work with the FNF program coordinator to greet and usher film goers into the auditorium and assist with distributing programs and ballots.

4. Bring out your inner child at the Art Yard

If you're a kid at heart, this is where we need your talents! We are looking for outgoing and creative people to help children decorate, paint, and add to the collaborative sculptures and on-site installations in the Art Yard. Whether you are adding scales to a dragon, building a skyscraper, or helping children paint a pile of pinecones, you are sure to have an imaginatively fun time!

5. Try your hand at face painting

From Spiderman to Hello Kitty, face painting is one of the Arts Festival's most popular activities for little and big kids alike. If you're a professional, costume or theater make-up artists, a college art major or high school art enthusiasts, we need your help! All supplies (paints, brushes, templates, etc.) are provided. Volunteers will work from templates to create the happiest faces on the Festival grounds.

6. Create 'Mad Hatter' Hats

The Mad Hatter Project is an interactive program where Festival guests can participate in the creative process and make their own unique "Mad Hats." Volunteers assist to design and create hats from hand painted paper bags and an assortment of adornments including ribbons, flowers, beads, sequins, feathers, etc.

7. Join the Earth Team

The Utah Arts Festival takes great pride in maintaining a clean and green environment. Support Mother Earth by working with our Earth Team on recycling, waste disposal, maintaining food and beverage areas and overall Festival Site beautification.

8. Serve up drinks at the adult beverage booth

We need dedicated volunteers with engaging personalities to pour and serve adult beverages in our beer and wine booths. This is a great opportunity for volunteers to work with our amazing Brew Crew. Prior pouring experience and TIPS certification is not required, but you must be at least 21 years of age. We are always looking for groups of friends, neighbors, coworkers, etc. to work together as a team in beer and wine booths.

We're also looking for volunteers to help in the Uinta Lounge. Come join the staff from Uinta Brewing and serve their specialty beers. You'll have an opportunity to learn all about barley wine, sour brown ales, double rye IPAs, and black ales to help educate our patrons on unique brews.

9. Welcome attendees as a festival greeters

If you like to smile and meet new people, becoming a Festival Greeter might be the perfect volunteer opportunity for you. Greeters help at the entrance and information booth by welcoming patrons, distributing maps and providing general assistance.

10. Serve up soda and lemonade as part of the C.R.A.B. Crew

We're also looking for volunteers to support our C.R.A.B. (Cool Refreshing Alternative Beverages) Crew. Volunteers are needed to serve bottled soda beverages and lemonade. This is a great opportunity for younger volunteers to help quench our patrons' thirsts. Sign up with a BFF or your whole family and work together!
