Arizona State University has the "most Mormon-friendly law school" -- outside Utah -- in the nation, according to a recent posting on an LDS-oriented Web site.
The site managers for mormonlawyers.com decided to exclude Brigham Young University and the University of Utah, which together have by far the most LDS students, said Web master Clint Dunaway, a Utah native, BYU graduate and third-year law student at University of Dayton in Ohio.
The order was based on Dunaway's point system that included: distance from a Mormon temple, number of registered members of the J. Reuben Clark Law Society for Mormon lawyers, cost of living, tuition and U.S. News & World Report ranking.
Economic elements are important because, he said, "the cheaper the cost of tuition plus the cheaper the cost of living equals less debt equals Mormon friendly."
The top 10 includes a Jesuit university (Gonzaga), two schools in Texas (Texas Tech and the University of Houston) and two in the Washington, D.C., area (George Washington and George Mason).
Dunaway created the list three years ago when he was trying to decide where to go, he said in a phone interview. "In the future, I would tweak the system to add a few other elements like the value of an Ivy League education in getting a high-paying salary."
