A Salt Lake City woman was in serious condition at a local hospital Friday after she was hit in a crosswalk by a car.

Salt Lake City police Detective Dennis McGowan said the victim, 38, had just stepped into the crosswalk near 200 South and 1300 East about 6:40 p.m. Thursday when she was struck by a Cadillac driven by a 68-year-old man.

McGowan said the woman, whose name was not released, was several feet into the crosswalk, having stepped off the northeast corner, when the northbound white Cadillac struck her. She had cuts to the back of her head and was initially listed in critical condition.

McGowan said Friday that the woman appeared to be improving, and she was expected to fully recover.

No citations were issued but the incident remains under investigation, McGowan said.
