An icy road contributed to a wild series of crashes Monday on northbound Interstate 15 in South Layton, including one involving a Utah Highway Patrol car.

Shortly after 6 a.m., a trooper went to two separate single-vehicle crashes, Utah Highway Patrol spokesman Sgt. Jeff Nigbur said. One vehicle slid off the road and stopped about 75 into a construction zone, while another hit the left wall before sliding to the right and stopping on the side of the road.

While the trooper was looking over those crashes, a Mazda pickup slid into the left median. When the driver of the Mazda pulled back into traffic, a Nissan SUV hit it. The Mazda accelerated and struck the left front side of the UHP trooper's car on the side of the road, while the Nissan stopped in the left lane.

No one was injured in any of the crashes. All of the vehicles were towed.
