Salt Lake City police are looking for a man who stole a woman's money and her car Thursday morning.
The woman cashed her disability check and put the money on top of her purse on her car's passenger seat, said Salt Lake City police Detective Dennis McGowan.
About 7 a.m., she was sitting in the parked car with the engine running near 500 West and 200 South, on the west side of the Road Home Shelter. A man ran up to the 1993 burgundy Oldsmobile Cutlass, opened the unlocked passenger door and grabbed the money, McGowan said. She jumped out of the car and ran after him, yelling for help.
As she chased him, the man turned around, got in the car -- which was still running -- and drove away, McGowan said.
He is described as 6 feet, 2 inches tall, 180 pounds, dark-skinned with a shaved head, denim jacket, blue jeans and tennis shoes, possibly wearing a peach-colored shirt, he said. Anyone with information can call 801-799-3000.
