West Valley City police arrested two men for stealing from a vacuum cleaner on Thursday.

A plainclothes detective happened to spot the pair, ages 39 and 49, prying open a carwash's coin-operated vacuum at 4650 S. 2700 West about 2 a.m., according to a jail booking statement. They opened it with a screwdriver and other tools, then and pulled out the quarters.

The detective let them finish the job, then arrested the pair nearby on suspicion of theft, said West Valley City police Lt. Bill Merritt.
