A Midvale man stabbed his neighbor several times during a late-night fight over a broken television Wednesday, police said.

The 39-year-old man and his girlfriend had recently rented the upstairs apartment of a house on the 7800 South block of Holden Street (805 West), said police Sgt. Jason Norton. The couple was drinking at the house's other apartment with the 49-year-old man who lives there.

About 11:45 p.m., the couple started fighting, possibly because one was jealous of the other over a relationship, Norton said. The boyfriend punched the television during the fight, and the neighbor got angry.

They traded blows, and the fight ended up in the kitchen. The boyfriend grabbed a knife and stabbed the neighbor several times in the shoulder and upper arm.

When officers arrived, the victim stumbled out of the house, bleeding, and was taken to Intermountain Medical Center. The boyfriend was also taken to the hospital with injuries to his hip, torso and nose from the fight. Police found the knife.

When the man recovers, he could be facing aggravated assault charges, Norton said. A fourth person was at the house but wasn't involved in the fight.
