Police arrested a Sandy man accused of beating his live-in girlfriend with the butt of a gun and firing a bullet through the ceiling of their apartment.

The round didn't reach the apartment above or hurt anyone else at the complex, located near 600 East and 7800 South. The fight started after the woman accused the man of having an affair, said Sandy police Lt. Vic Quezada. He hit her several times in the face with the butt of a pistol, causing bruises and lacerations to her face and neck area. The woman managed to escape the house, drove to an area hospital and called police.

The 46-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of aggravated domestic violence and possession of a weapon by a restricted person. Drugs and alcohol appear to be factors in the fight, Quezada said.
