South Salt Lake police arrested a woman Tuesday accused of using her dogs as weapon.

Two women were both out with their dogs in the area of 350 East Park Creeke Lane (3050 South) about 9 p.m. Tuesday, said South Salt Lake police Lt. Gary Keller.

They both live nearby. Three dogs, two pit bulls owned by one 20-year-old woman and another dog owned by a 25-year-old woman, started to fight.

The dog fight led the two women to fight verbally, then begin to hit each other, Keller said. When it looked like the 25-year-old woman was winning, the woman with the pit bulls unleashed her dogs. They bit the other woman on the hip and legs.

The pit bull owner's 20-year-old boyfriend then joined the fight, hitting the 25-year-old woman with a metal bed frame across the back and legs.

Police arrived and arrested the couple on suspicion of aggravated assault. The 20-year-old suffered minor injuries and was not taken to the hospital. Her dog was not seriously hurt, Keller said.

South Salt Lake Animal Control is holding the two pit bulls while charges are screened.
