A man and a 14-year-old girl were in critical condition Saturday after their car hit a van at 600 North and 1300 West in Salt Lake City on Friday night.

The man was driving a Honda Civic south on 1300 West when he ran through a stop sign at 600 North, said Salt Lake City police Lt. Scott White.

The Civic hit a van that was westbound on 600 North about 7 p.m., and the force of the impact flipped the van. The Civic ended up in a yard across the street. Witnesses told police the car was going about 60 to 70 mph when it hit the van.

The man was taken to Intermountain Medical Center, and the girl was sent to Primary Children's Medical Center in critical but stable condition. The van driver was taken to Salt Lake Regional Hospital. Police aren't yet sure whether drugs or alcohol were involved, and the identities of the drivers were not immediately available.
