Williams' agent, Bob McClaren, would not say when the meeting would take place, though it is expected to be Wednesday or Thursday, after Williams returns from vacation. It will take place in Salt Lake City, with McClaren flying in from Houston.
Jazz general manager Kevin O'Connor has declined all comment concerning negotiations. Williams could sign an extension as early as Wednesday, after the NBA's July moratorium on free-agent signings expires.
McClaren said Williams would attend the meeting. "I think that it's very important," McClaren said. "This is one of the most important decisions of his career, and I think he should be a party to some, if not all, of the discussions."
McClaren said he still had not heard for certain if Jazz owner Larry Miller would attend the meeting. Miller was hospitalized last month, suffering from complications from diabetes.
Front office changes
The Jazz promoted Richard Smith to be their director of basketball operations and hired David Fredman as a scout.
Smith and Fredman will replace Troy Weaver, who left to become Oklahoma City's assistant general manager after serving as the Jazz's director of player personnel.
Smith has worked for the Jazz for 14 years, including the last five as the team's director of scouting services. Fredman had worked for the Jazz since their days in New Orleans before spending five years as assistant general manager in Denver and last season as the Utah Flash's general manager in the NBA Development League.
