SIXERS STEAL

Jan. 15, 1965

Back when nine teams played in the NBA and the Finals ended in April, Philadelphia acquired hometown hero Wilt Chamberlain from San Francisco for Paul Neumann, Connie Dierking, Lee Shafer and cash. The deal turned the 76ers into immediate contenders, and they won the title in 1967.

NO RING

Feb. 15, 1989

At the urging of All-Star point guard Isiah Thomas, Detroit traded Adrian Dantley and a first-round draft pick to Dallas for Mark Aguirre. The deal ended A.D.'s best chance of winning a title. Meanwhile, Aguirre spent 4 1/2 seasons with the Pistons and played on two championship teams.

MARCELO NICOLA?

Feb. 14, 1995

Houston positioned itself for the second of consecutive championships by acquiring Clyde Drexler and Tracy Murray from Portland for Otis Thorpe, the rights to Marcelo Nicola and a draft pick. With Drexler on board, the Rockets upset the 60-win Jazz in the opening round of the playoffs before sweeping Orlando in the Finals.

ENGLISH LESSON

Feb. 1, 1980

Denver fleeced Indiana by trading aging power forward George McGinnis to the Pacers for future Hall of Famer Alex English, who averaged at least 23 points a game over the next nine seasons. McGinnis played two more seasons before retiring.

SLEEP(Y) WELL

Feb. 6, 1980

Not a blockbuster, but Golden State helped itself by trading baggage-toting Michael Ray Richardson to New Jersey for Sleepy Floyd and Mickey Johnson. Floyd averaged almost 19 points a game over the next four years.

COACH FOR SALE

Feb. 21, 2002

Denver traded Nick Van Exel, Raef LaFrentz, Avery Johnson and Tariq Abdul-Wahad to Dallas for Tim Hardaway, Juwan Howard, Donnell Harvey, a draft pick and cash. Johnson joined the Mavs' organization and later became the team's head coach.

BAD BOY

Feb. 16, 1982

Detroit acquired Bill Laimbeer and Kenny Carr from Cleveland for Phil Hubbard, Paul Mokeski and two draft picks. Laimbeer ended up playing 12 seasons for the Pistons during their "Bad Boy" era. He scored more than 12,000 points and averaged 10 rebounds per game in Detroit.

REG-GIE, REG-GIE

Feb. 15, 1984

Chicago traded Reggie Theus to Kansas City for Steve Johnson and three second-round picks. When the Kings moved to Sacramento in 1985, Theus was one of their most popular and productive players.

RISING UP

Feb. 25, 1988

Phoenix acquired Kevin Johnson, Mark West, Tyrone Corbin and two draft picks from Cleveland for Larry Nance, Mike Sanders and a draft pick. The deal helped turn the Suns into a 50-win team for the next seven seasons.

ALL THAT JAZZ

Feb. 24, 1994

Utah sent Jeff Malone and a first-round draft pick to Philadelphia for Jeff Hornacek, Sean Green and a second-round pick. Jazz fans know the rest: two matchups with Chicago in the Finals over the next five seasons.
