Orlando, Fla. » Josh Duncan arrived at summer league as an undrafted forward from Xavier -- the campus located just 10 minutes from his home in Cincinnati -- having averaged a modest 6 points and 2.3 rebounds playing in France last season.
He might have left with an invitation to Jazz training camp, after an impressive five-game run in which he scored in double figures, shot better than 70 percent and rightfully earned the distinction as a summer surprise.
"I would love it," Duncan said. "It'd be a great opportunity. Throughout this whole week, that's all I've been working for, trying to hopefully get the interest of some team and be able to come back for vet camp."
Duncan led with 12 points Friday as the Jazz closed out their week at the RDV Sportsplex with a 70-60 victory over Oklahoma City, which held out Russell Westbrook and Kyle Weaver.
The 6-foot-9 forward hit a three-pointer as the Jazz took the lead at the end of the third quarter. He followed by scoring off a strong drive and getting open under the basket as the Jazz built a 10-point lead and held off the Thunder in the fourth.
Jazz assistant coach Tyrone Corbin praised Duncan's understanding of the game, his outside shooting and his post play before concluding: "I think he's done a good job over the week and showed a lot of good things."
"He can play within our system," Corbin added. "He can pass the ball for a big guy and he can see what's going on on the floor. He's not a pretty runner, but he can actually run the floor, so he's got a good chance."
Duncan averaged 11.4 points for the week -- second to Charlotte Bobcats second-round draft pick Derrick Brown, who played with the Jazz -- and hit 21 of 29 shots (72.4 percent), including 7 of 9 three-pointers.
Eric Maynor, the Jazz's first-round draft pick, averaged 7.2 points and 3.2 assists, but struggled in shooting just 11 of 38 (28.9 percent). Maynor could not get his runners and floaters to fall.
Corbin said he thought Maynor "broke down a little bit or got a little tired" at the end of the week, underscoring the importance for the Virginia Commonwealth product to get stronger.
"You've got to get used to it," Maynor said. "That's just 10 days. I've got to play 82 games next season."
Second-round draft pick Goran Suton missed all 10 three-pointers he took in summer league and shot 35.7 percent overall.
