Jazz: Williams practices, could play Thursday

The likelihood that the Jazz will have Deron Williams available for Thursday's game against Dallas increased Wednesday when he tested his bruised right quadriceps and swollen knee in practice.

Williams said there was still swelling in his knee, which he injured in the first quarter of Saturday's loss to Portland when Greg Oden set a pick, but that a lot of the swelling had diminished.

"I definitely want to play tomorrow, so I'm shooting for that," Williams said before practice. "But I've just got to see how it feels. I haven't ran yet on it, so I don't know how it's going to handle."

The Jazz said Williams went through practice in full and will be a game-time decision to play Thursday.

Williams sat out Monday's victory over Charlotte, but Thursday's game has greater implications. The Jazz went into Wednesday trailing Dallas by two games for one of the Western Conference's final playoff positions.

Williams wore a blue brace on his right knee with a white sleeve running down to his calf. "If I had two of them, it'd be Millsapian," said Williams, referring to the two braces that Paul Millsap wore through much of January.

Williams never has worn a knee brace for a game and said he didn't want to start Thursday. "I'll probably end up throwing it off," Williams said.
