It's time to start thinking about Christmas in July.

Artists who want to participate in the annual candy window display at Macy's in City Creek Center have until Aug. 1 to submit a proposal.

The whimsical display is a Utah tradition that originated in the 1970s at the former ZCMI Center.

Since 2012, the downtown Macy's, 21 S. Main St., has continued the holiday display by selecting local artists to create oversized ornaments made with hundreds of pounds of candy.

Macy's provides supplies and a 42-inch styrofoam ball to create a holiday-themed ornament. Information about the artists will be featured in the window as part of the exhibition, which runs Nov. 16-Jan. 1.

Artists are asked to submit a rendering and brief description of their design, a brief description of their artistic background, and a short essay about why they want to be involved in the candy window project.

Entries will be judged on feasibility and theme and must be complete on site between Nov. 1-16.
