Woods Cross High's Trevin Knell announced on Twitter late Monday night that he has committed to play basketball for BYU and will sign with the Cougars after he completes a two-year LDS Church mission to Uruguay.

Knell, a 6-foot-5 guard known for his shooting ability, said on the social media website that he will attend BYU in 2019.

Knell signed a National Letter of Intent with UC Berkeley last November, but asked to be released from it last month when Golden Bears coach Cuonzo Martin left for Missouri. California obliged.

An excellent student with a 4.0 grade point average, Knell visited BYU last weekend.

Knell was rated by ESPN as a three-star prospect and the second-best prospect in Utah from the Class of 2017, behind Bingham's Branden Carlson, a Utah commit who will also serve a mission before enrolling.

Knell averaged more than 25 points per game his senior season. Before signing with Cal, he had also received offers from Montana, Santa Clara, Washington State, Wyoming and Montana.
