Sunshine and wind. There's your week-ending forecast, Utah — and it's also the stuff of poets.
Annie Dillard, for instance, saw such days as flexing with "muscular energy in sunlight corresponding to the spiritual energy of wind."
So, plant your feet in the 10-25 mph breezes and turn your face toward that celestial fireball and its Wasatch Front highs in the low- to mid-80s. But do so in silence, Khalil Gibran warns, because "if you reveal your secrets to the wind, you should not blame the wind for revealing them to the trees."
The National Weather Service, eschewing prose, simply forecasts sunny to partly cloudy skies on Friday. Early morning winds of 10-20 mph will top 35 mph by nightfall.
Saturday will see that cloud cover build some, cooling temperatures some 10-15 degrees into the mid-60s in the Salt Lake and Tooele valleys.
Southern Utah, too, will see some gusty weather — 10-30 mph winds — heading toward the weekend. Friday's highs in Utah's Dixie will be in the upper-80s, while Saturday will cool a few degrees.
The coming days will not be the kind to win praise from the Utah Division of Air Quality. Only two counties — Cache and Tooele — will maintain "green," or healthy conditions, while the rest of the state drops into the "yellow," or compromised zone for particulate pollution.
The Intermountain Allergy & Asthma website predicts "very high" levels of mulberry pollen, while oak, sycamore, mold and grass registered "moderate" on the site's allergen index as of Thursday.
