Rayshad Lewis and his father, former NFL All-Pro linebacker Ray Lewis, confirmed Lewis' intention to transfer from Utah State on Twitter on Monday.
"I will always have love for my teammates, coaches and fans at Utah State," Lewis posted on Twitter. "But I have made a decision that I feel is best for me my family and my future. I have decided to transfer and reopen my recruiting with hopes of finding a new home. I have no regrets from my first year of college all the ups and downs have made me stronger. I appreciate all the love and support but I feel this is necessary so thank you to any one everyone that has believed in me so far through this journey."
Ray Lewis tweeted a link to Friday's post from The Salt Lake Tribune's Aggieville blog along with the message, "tough call, no doubt. But I trust my son's heart & believe he's made the right decision. Mad respect to Utah State!"
Lewis, a wide receiver/defensive back from Orlando, Fla., is a rising sophomore who turned in one of the best freshman seasons of any receiver in Aggies history. This past season, the 5-foot-10, 165-pound Lewis made 40 catches for 476 yards and started seven games. His receptions and receiving yards marked were the second-most by an Aggies freshman.
This spring, Lewis had been preparing to transition into a two-way player as a wide receiver and defensive back. He played both ways in the annual Blue-White spring game and started with the first defensive unit. However, Scout.com reported Friday morning that Lewis had decided to transfer.
