Provo • Led by individual champions Peter Kuest on the men's side and Alexandra White on the women's side, BYU swept the West Coast Conference Golf Championships on Saturday at Riverside Country Club.

It was the second team title in the WCC for both squads, as women's coach Carrie Roberts' team also won it last year and men's coach Bruce Brockbank's squad also won it in 2014.

Ranked 47th in the country, BYU's men shot a 24-under-par 840 to defeat No. 22 Pepperdine by seven strokes. Saint Mary's (-12) placed third.

"I'm proud of our guys," Brockbank said. "One or two guys really seem to step up on any given day."

Kuest, a freshman from Fresno, Calif., tied with Santa Clara's Hayden Shieh at 11-under 205 after Saturday's third and final round, then won the medalist trophy in a playoff on the 18th hole.

"We were fortunate to get Peter Kuest to BYU," Brockbank said. "He has changed the culture of our team. It has just been awesome."

Also for BYU, junior Patrick Fishburn (-5) tied for fifth, junior CJ Lee (-2) tied for 11th, freshman Rhett Rasmussen (-1) tied for 15th and sophomore Spencer Dunaway (+1) tied for 20th.

Ranked No. 27 in the country, BYU's women successfully defended their 2016 crown with a dominating display of golf at their home course, but one where they never play tournaments.

Having ended No. 36 Pepperdine's 14-year win streak last year, the Cougars (+13) pulled ahead of the Waves on Saturday to win by eight strokes.

"We just battled," said Roberts. "The girls are solid. They just keep getting better and tougher. This win shows how hard the girls work and speaks a lot about the kind of people they are."

White, a senior from Lompoc, Calif., who began her career at TCU, shot a 2-under 70 on Saturday to finish at 1-over 217. Her BYU teammates Kendra Dalton and Rose Huang tied for second at 2 over, while Brooklyn Hocker (+8) took eighth place.

"Alex has played steady for us the entire year," Roberts said. "She has been clutch. She is so confident. I loved everything about her round today."

Both BYU teams will now await bids to the NCAA Division I Golf regionals next month.
