Unified Police quickly found and arrested a robbery suspect who allegedly held a gun to the head of a 7-Eleven employee early Wednesday morning.
The gunman walked into the store, at 4637 W. 5615 South, about 4:15 a.m., UPD Lt. Brian Lohrke said. The suspect, wearing dark clothing and with a bandana covering his face, put a pistol to the head of a female clerk and demanded money.
The clerk was able to flee and locked herself into a back room, where she called 911.
A responding officer spotted a male matching the suspect's description, walking on the sidewalk near Kearns High School, about half a mile from the crime scene.
"When the officer turned on his spotlight to get a better view, the suspect fled on foot. Other officers responded to the area and found him again, this time on Silvertip Drive (about five blocks northwest of the school)," Lohrke said.
The 18-year-old suspect surrendered without further incident. Officers reportedly recovered a .22-caliber handgun from the man's waistband, bandana — and an admission of guilt by the teen, Lohrke said.

The suspect booked into the Salt Lake County jail on suspicion of aggravated robbery and fleeing police.
