An Ogden man died after he was inside a house when a natural-gas explosion blew the roof off the home and nearly burned it down, the Ogden Fire Department said Wednesday night.

An ongoing investigation has found that there were no issues with the gas lines outside the home where Bobby J. Orris, 42, was living when the explosion occurred about 5:56 p.m. on March 7. That leads fire officials to believe that the issue started within the home.

"Questar has tested the service line outside of the home and found no issues," the department wrote late Wednesday on Twitter. "Therefore, investigators have determined the problem to be within the home."

Orris crawled out of the home and onto the remaining roof as flames and smoke soared 30 feet into the air. First responders pulled him to the ground and took him to a hospital, where he died a week later of his injuries.

"The investigation remains open, pending the home being made stable and rendered safe for investigators to enter," the department wrote.
