Tracking the Olympic torch to Turin, Italy? Brush off your 2002 Salt Lake Winter Games beret - remember the crazy effort it took to snag one? - and wear it with pride.
"It's still our biggest seller," says Steve Cummings, manager of the Roots store on Main Street in Park City.
At $19.95, it is also a best buy from Roots, the Canadian-based manufacturer of Team USA Olympic gear.
The 2006 Winter Games beret runs $24.95.
"Basically, it is the same hat. It is fleece and has 'USA' on the front. But instead of being worn at a slant [over a brow], you wear it square on the head and push the crown toward the back."
There have been a few other changes in the official U.S. Olympic Team Torino beret, described as something of a "poor boy"-style cap. "USA" letters are larger. The hats come in white, Torino Blue (navy) and Corso Rossa (red), all with white ribbing.
Cummings says the Park City Roots shop selection is aimed at the high-end adult market.
"We do not have kid stuff, but you never know. Our Olympic scarves ($39.95) and baseball caps ($29.95) came in Wednesday," he said.
Cummings' favorite is the blue parade sweater ($248) or vest ($198). But you can spiff up your style for less with a full-zip hoodie ($88), long- or short-sleeved T-shirts ($35/$25) or a track jacket ($98).
While Target figures to get part of the collection, Mark Pyper at the Fort Union store says he will not know exactly what is coming until the gear arrives later this month.
