Kellie Pickler, "Kellie Pickler"

Grade: D

Kellie Pickler, a former "American Idol" contestant, has become a country star by exploiting her dumb-blonde, cornball persona. That personality was showcased on her first album, "Small Town Girl," a surprisingly fun debut that promised more good times ahead.

Well, the good times haven't arrived yet.

Pickler's second album is self-titled, which in the music business usually means the singer is trying to establish "who Kellie Pickler really is."

But this new Pickler is too serious for her own good, and the voice that got her kicked off of "American Girl" still isn't strong or wily enough to be convincing.

It is a much-too-slick, faux country, forgettable album. The best song on the album is co-written by Taylor Swift, whose own sophomore album is due next month, and should be the one country fans should be salivating for.
