Atlanta • A woman hit by a police car while she was jogging in suburban Atlanta has died of her injuries.

News media outlets report the DeKalb County medical examiner says 66-year-old Janet Pickney died Tuesday night. She was struck while jogging about 7:30 a.m. that day.

DeKalb County Police Lt. Lonzy Robertson says 31-year-old Officer Ian MacGowan swerved to avoid a vehicle turning in front of him and hit Pickney before crashing into a house. He also was injured in the crash.

Pickney was a retired teacher and an avid runner. She was a member of the Atlanta Track Club and participated in many Grand Prix events. On July 4, she ran in the AJC Peachtree Road Race, where she averaged a 10-minute, 51-second mile.
