The Salt Lake City Fire Department on Monday narrowed the list of places to ignite fireworks over the Pioneer Day holiday week.
The restrictions will apply July 21 through 27.
The new Salt Lake City fireworks boundaries for the Pioneer Day Holiday include:
• No fireworks will be allowed east of 900 East.
• No fireworks will be allowed west of Redwood Road.
• No fireworks are allowed north of South Temple to State Street and no fireworks from north of North Temple to 200 West.
• No fireworks are allowed in any city parks nor in City Creek Canyon.
The restrictions apply to all fireworks — aerials and otherwise — because fire officials consider all a fire risk under the current dry conditions.
Fire Marshal Ryan Mellor said in a statement that officials believe these new fire restrictions will help reduce the risk of blazes sparked by fireworks. He noted that there were as many outdoor fires reported from July 1-11 than the entire month of June combined.
Fire officials encouraged residents to attend a public fireworks display, rather than lighting their own. They also say they will "aggressively pursue" anyone who accidentally starts a fire if they are out of compliance with the new fireworks restrictions.

Other Salt Lake County cities, including West Jordan and Cottonwood Heights, announced firework restrictions last week.
In West Jordan, aerial fireworks, which shoot more than 15 feet high, are banned from July 21 to July 27, with an exception of two — baseball infields at Veterans Memorial Park (1985 W. 7800 South) and Ron Wood Baseball Complex (5900 W. New Bingham Highway) — on July 24 from 9:30 p.m. to midnight.
• No fireworks will be allowed west of SR-111 (also known as U-111 and the Bacchus Highway within West Jordan City limits).
• No fireworks will be allowed within 200 feet of the Jordan River Parkway Trail east of 1300 West.
• No fireworks will be allowed within 200 feet of the area commonly referred to as Clay Hollow Wash that runs east and west in the area of 7800 South (from about 4800 West to SR-111).
• No fireworks will be allowed within 200 feet of Bingham Creek, located near Old Bingham Highway running the length of the east-west boundaries within West Jordan.
• No fireworks will be allowed in city parks, except for in the designated portions of Veterans Memorial Baseball Complex, Fields 2 and 3, along with Ron Wood Baseball Complex, Fields 4 and 5, as specified on Pioneer Day.
All trash and debris should be deposited in approved metal containers provided at the locations, according to a news release from West Jordan. The city is not sponsoring this as an event, it said.
