CoreLife Eatery to host Huntsman Cancer Institute benefit

CoreLife Eatery, a Utah County fast food restaurant that says it focuses on healthy and affordable meals, will hold a pre-opening event Thursday to benefit Huntsman Cancer Institute.

The restaurant, which opens for business on Friday at 197 N. West State Street in American Fork, will have a fundraiser from 11:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

Anyone who comes to the restaurant can pay whatever he or she wants for a meal, said franchisee Rick Timmons, with all proceeds going to the cancer institute at the University of Utah.

Free Salt Palace conference to address hearing problems

A four-day conference starting Thursday at the Salt Palace Convention Center will address hearing loss and hearing improvement.

The Hearing Loss Association of America is expecting 1,000 people to attend the conference, which offers consumers free access to the exhibit hall while audiology professionals participate in educational programs, said association spokeswoman Nancy Macklin.

U.S Army veteran Shilo Harris will give the keynote address at the conference, which is projected to have an economic impact of $1 million.

Exhibit hall offerings include displays of hearing aids, caption phones and other hearing-assistive products for the hard of hearing — along with access to experts in various topics.

Macklin said real-time captions and hearing-loop technology will be used at all workshops at the Salt Palace and the host hotel, Little America.

Grand opening Thursday for Diamonds Direct in Murray

Diamonds Direct, a North Carolina jewelry company, is moving into the Utah market for the first time with the opening Thursday of a store at 196 E. Winchester St. (6400 South) in Murray.

A 3 p.m. ribbon-cutting ceremony will feature speeches by Dovy Klarberg, a senior vice president at Diamonds Direct, and Murray Mayor Ted Eyre.

Eyal Boaron will be general manager of the store, the 10th Diamonds Direct has opened since its 1995 founding. The company says it can lower prices on its diamonds and jewels because it has an office inside the world diamond exchange in Tel Aviv, Israel.

Domo selected to provide Japan Airlines with real-time software

Domo, an American Fork company whose software provides clients with real-time data for brand development and marketing, has been selected to provide that assistance to Japan Airlines Co.

The airline is Japan's second largest, employing nearly 11,000 people worldwide. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Fresenius Kidney Care held open house in WVC

Fresenius Kidney Care held an open house Tuesday to introduce the public to its new dialysis facility at 4101 W. Pioneer Parkway in West Valley City.

Members of the public will be able to tour the facility for treating diabetes and other kidney diseases and meet staff members. Information will be provided about hemodialysis-travel services, pharmacy services and ongoing educational programs, said Jacob Saveage, operations director for parent company Fresenius Medical Care North America.

Based in Waltham, Mass., Fresenius Medical said last April that it had 2,200 dialysis centers nationwide, providing services to 200,000 people annually, when it split off that division as Fresenius Kidney Care.

Senior community in Taylorsville broke ground Wednesday

Ground was broken Wednesday for Summit Vista, a 105-acre senior living community at 6183 S. Prairie View Dr. (3500 West) in Taylorsville.

Called a "life plan community" by the owners, Summit Vista will include independent living, assisted living, memory care and rehabilitation services as well as home care and nursing care.

Joining Summit Vista officials Mark Erickson and Kelly Ornberg at the event were Taylorsville Mayor Larry Johnson and Mark Briesacher, president of Intermountain Medical Group.
