Utah's gymnastics team lost one of its key coaching staff members on Tuesday, with the announcement assistant Meredith Paulicivic has been named the head coach at Ohio State.

Paulicivic, a former Utah gymnast, has spent the past two seasons as an assistant with Utah. Her focus was overhauling the choreography of Utah's floor routines as well as serving as one of the vault coaches.

The Utes finished fourth nationally on the floor in 2016 and 2017 while Tiffani Lewis won the 2016 floor title and was the Pac-12 vault co-champion in 2017 along with MyKayla Skinner. Skinner won the 2017 NCAA floor title, becoming Utah's first floor champion since 1992. A gymnast for the Utes from 1991-94, Paulicivic previously was an assistant at Arizona and was a coach at SCEGA Gymnastics from 2007-14.

"I would like to acknowledge Megan Marsden and Tom Farden, my co-head coaches at Utah, for the opportunity to learn how to run a top team," Paulicivic said in a statement.

She also thanked Utah athletics director Chris Hill for hiring her in 2015 and "believing in a former student-athlete."

Paulicivic replaces Carey Fagan, the former Ohio State coach of 13 years who accepted a role as the school's Assistant Athletics Director for Sport Administration and Student-Athlete Well-Being.

Fagan was named the Big Ten Coach of the Year twice, including in 2012 when Ohio State reached the NCAAs for the first time in 23 years.

Ohio State placed fifth at the 2017 NCAA Champaign Regional.

Marsden said the Utes don't have a specific timeline for hiring a new assistant. She said losing Paulicivic was "bittersweet."

"We are extremely proud of her for going on to a head coaching position and we don't want to stand in her way as she moves on to the next level of coaching," Marsden said. "Doing that at Ohio State is a great opportunity and we are excited for her. It is another feather in our cap as Utah gymnastics continues to place coaches in head coaching rolls across the country."

Utah's previous assistant, Jeff Graba, is now the head coach at Auburn.
