The trail up Red Hollow is also known as the Red Hills hike. It is the back side of the red hill visible from downtown Cedar City and is a good hike for anyone with a few extra hours during one of the city's theater festivals or in the morning or afternoon. The hike offers close views of the red rock and shade in the morning and late afternoon.

Red Hollow and Thor's Hideout connect on a saddle. From the Red Hollow trailhead, follow the trail north up the canyon. The trail is well marked, but steep in spots, and footing can be loose.

At 0.7 miles, you will reach a fence and a junction with other trails. You are on the saddle. Follow the signs for Thor's Hideout.

The trail continues north down the canyon through more juniper trees. There are a few switchbacks that wind around. As you near the bottom of the canyon, you will merge onto the Ghost Flats trail and follow it to the Thunderbird Garden trailhead.

You can also hike these two trails by starting at Thunderbird Garden. Either way, you'll need to return the way you came.

Directions • To reach the Red Hollow Trailhead from Interstate 15, exit onto Main Street. Follow Main Street to Center Street and turn east. Follow Center Street east for 1.8 miles. You'll start to leave Cedar City, and the Red Hollow Trailhead will be marked by a small sign on the north side of the road.

To reach the Thunderbird Garden trailhead from I-15, exit and go to 900 N. Main St. Turn east onto 900 North and follow the road 1.2 miles to the trailhead.
